Meet the Publican: Laura
Laura can calculate math in Spanish. We guarantee she’s the only Publican with this skill. We sat down with our worldly Business Development Specialist on the couch this week.
1. Where’s your favourite place you’ve lived?
I would have to pick four favourites: India for its inquisitive contrasts, Colombia for its unapologetic sociability, Vermont for its progressive nature and Melbourne for its welcoming sensibility.
2. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“If you’re going to do something, do it well.”
3. What’s something weird about you?
I grew up in Colombia and therefore my earliest math lessons were in Spanish. The result? My brain can only process numerical equations in Spanish.
4. An impactful project that left a mark on you?
While working in Colombia, I was exposed to an incredible purpose-driven strategy where a nation-wide coffee company took leadership in the process following the Peace Treaty by hiring thousands of ex-combatants and accompanying their journey of reintegration back into society.
5. What social impact issue means a lot to you?
Unequal distribution of opportunities that create insurmountable barriers for individuals, preventing them from reaching their greatest potential.
6. What’s your favourite thing about PUBLIC?
It’s no surprise that the people at Public are at the heart of company. But if I had to pick a second favourite thing about working here, I would say it’s the ability to work in a space that doesn’t make me choose between doing good and compromising my values. Being able to confidently say that companies can actually be more successful if they are rooted in social purpose is what makes all of us Publicans true-believers in the great work that we do.
